Design and Key Points for Cast Iron Flat Plate Pouring System

Cast iron flat casting molds are divided into:

Gate: The entrance where molten iron is injected into a mold from a ladle. Often, in order to achieve uniform pouring volume and remove impurities from the molten iron, slag collection pouring cups are installed. Under the sprue cup is a sprue.

Horizontal sprue: refers to the horizontal part of the molten iron flowing from the sprue to the cavity channel.

Internal sprue: refers to the part where molten iron enters the mold cavity from the transverse runner. The common saying for casting is "weir", which is an important part of the craftsmanship.

Air outlet: It is a hole that discharges the air inside the mold cavity outward with the filling of molten iron. If the permeability of the molding sand is appropriate, it is generally not available.

Riser: It is used to discharge impurities in the molten iron and impurities in the mold outward. However, when the volume of the cast iron flat casting is insufficient due to cooling shrinkage, it plays a supplementary shrinkage role, which is called a supplementary shrinkage riser. This type of riser is coarse.

The basic points of casting process: Casting process is to ensure smooth pouring, and the technology of good casting, smooth and fast is the famous saying of Dr. Yantaro Kasiyama, that is, the pouring time should be as short as possible, and the pouring should be carried out inside the mold cavity without disorder. The key points are as follows.

(1) Regarding the upper and lower parts of the mold: The cutting surface of the casting should be as close as possible to the lower box, as there are fewer shrinkage holes in the lower part and the material is dense.

(2) Pouring method: There are top pouring from the upper part of the casting and bottom pouring from the lower and middle parts. Top injection molds are prone to sand flushing and are not commonly used.

(3) Location of the sprue: Due to the solidification of the molten iron flowing into the mold cavity, if an sprue is opened in the thick walled part, the molten iron cannot enter the thin walled part. In large castings, if the sprue is too small, the molten iron passing through will be faster, and sand will be washed near the sprue. The position of the sprue should be determined based on the number and shape of the sprues.

Design of Cast Iron Flat Plate Pouring System: A key point in pouring system design is to create a hemispherical shape at the bottom of the sprue and the end of the runner to mitigate the impact of molten iron during the design of the sprue and runner.
